38 Weeks -Almost There!!

Well, we had our 38th week doctor's appointment this past Monday and not much more to report. The baby's heart rate was at 158 beats per minute, I have not gained anymore weight (YAY!) and the baby's head is dropping. I am only about 1/2 cm dilated so we still have a ways to go. Last night;however, I was having some contractions but they did stop so maybe this is really the start of something--we shall wait and see, but I still want my little sweet pea to cook and grow especially if he or she is not ready yet--just want a healthy baby!

I had to travel down to Woman's Hospital yesterday to get some more blood work done so that was nice. :-) We go to the doctor again for my 39th week check-up on June 30th and I will let you know how we are doing.

37 Weeks Pregnant Check-up and Childbirth Class

Well, we went to the doctor yesterday to see how our little guy or little girl is doing. Everything went perfectly. The baby's heart rate is at a steady 156 beats per minute, his or her head is down and settling well in the pelvis--and boy do I feel it. I woke up this morning with some mild lower back pain and now I am realizing that our baby has really begun to descend. My blood pressure and weight were just fine and I am still in the effacement stage with no dilation yet. My doctor has ordered an ultrasound at the hospital for July 6th to determine the level of amniotic fluid and the health of the baby if he or she passes the due date of July 4th. I have a strange motherly feeling that this baby is just really happy in there and will most likely be a late arrival, so mommy and daddy wait patiently as long as he or she remains healthy and happy in there. :-)

Clayton and I went to a childbirth class all day last Saturday and learned some really good relaxation and breathing techniques that will hopefully help us during the labor. It was pretty ironic because throughout the class on Saturday I was experiencing some pretty strong Braxton-Hicks Contractions as if our baby knew we were at the hospital. :-) We took a tour of the hospital-the new hospital wing is so nice. It has really set in that we are about to welcome our first child as we saw where the birth will occur and where we will meet our baby for the first time. We are so excited and anticipating the day. We feel so blessed and cannot wait to be parents.

Baby's Room and Baby Shower

This is a picture of Clayton's uncle, grandmother, and his cousins right before the baby shower started. No, the boys left to go do "manly things" while the girls enjoyed the baby shower. :-)

Above you will find pictures of the Baby's Nursery!! Finally we ordered the crib, the glider, and the dresser/changing table and Clayton did very well putting it all together for our baby. The bedding and curtains were ordered from Pottery Barn and they are the "Brooke Collection" so we just had to get them. The colors are very boy and girl friendly and once he or she arrives then we will spruce up the room adding a little more pinks or more blues--depending on the sex of the baby. The wicker shelves are the shelves that were ironically in my bedroom when I was a little girl. The "nit-nacs" on the shelves are my collection of "Noah's Ark". All my life, starting when I was very little, I always collected "Noah's Ark" collectables and small items. I always knew that I wanted to put them in my baby's room one day--and I thought of this when I was like 5 years old because I always knew that I wanted to be a mommy and I cannot believe that I am about to be one! What an amazing blessing and Clayton and I cannot wait to lay our little one in this beautiful crib that we put together.
Then there are some pictures of my baby shower that was held at Pappasito's Mexican Cantina---YUM YUM! I don't have that many pictures because of course my camera's battery died early on, but it was such a lovely shower that my wonderful big sister and her mother-in-law threw for me and baby. We received such wonderful gifts and I finally feel like we are ready to bring this little one home, although he or she needs to "cook" for a little while longer.
Today, I actually cut my hair very short. I donated my hair to a cancer foundation where they will make a wig out of my hair. Once I take pictures of the new "do" I will post them. I am off of work right now for the summer break since I work in the school district and man do I love this time off. My house is clean, good meals are on the table, and my dog can get some alone time with me until the baby comes. I was able to interview a few Pediatrician's and found one that I absolutely love who is a part of the Texas Children's Pediatric Associates and she is super close by to our house. :-)
I am seeing the OB doctor weekly. Last Friday I was not dilating but my cervix was 50 percent effaced. I am making a trip to the doctor tomorrow morning so I will post everyone on our progress. :-) Almost 37 weeks now--won't be too much longer!
Take care!

Layne's Baptism in Nordheim, Texas

These pictures were taken at Layne's Baptism in Nordheim, Texas. Layne is our newest little nephew, Wesley, Clayton's brother, and his wife Christine welcomed Layne into the world on the morning of March 13, 2009. Hopefully our little guy or little girl will be close to his or her cousin and play well together as they grow up.
Clayton's grandparents stand proud with their grandson and great-grandson!
